What is the best Covid travel insurance?

Are you planning a trip to Australia?

More than a twenty-hour flight from France, the change of scenery is guaranteed on the mainland island bordered by the Indian and Pacific Oceans. But before heading to Down Under to touch the eyes of the Great Barrier Reef, walk the cosmopolitan and bubbling Sydney, surf the waves of Bondi Beach, trek the Outback and the Bush, admire the impressive and changing XXL rock of Uluru or take a road trip on Great Ocean Road, follow our guide.
From mandatory formalities to travel insurance, as well as practical advice, we provide you with instructions so that you can go to Australia with peace of mind and safety.

Our insurance attestations on our site include “Coverage for Covid-19 Health Care Expenses”

What formalities to go to Australia?

For any stay of fewer than 3 months in Australia, French nationals must hold a valid passport and have an eVisitor (electronic travel authorization). The application must be made online.

The eVisitor is free and individual. Every traveler (even children traveling with their own passport or on the passport of one of their parents) must apply.

Which vaccines?

Be up to date with your usual vaccinations (DTP- diphtheria-tetanus-poliomyelitis and MMR- measles-mumps-rubella for children).

The yellow fever vaccine is not mandatory unless you come from a country where this disease is endemic.

Which driver’s license to drive in Australia?

You must present your national driver’s license with an international driver’s license, which is in fact an official translation of your French license.

In Australia, driving is left-hand and requires at least 21 years and 1 year of driving experience to be able to rent a car on site.

Our advice: before leaving or upon your arrival, consider registering on Ariane. This free service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs allows you to receive (SMS or by email) important information and security instructions in case of a change in the situation on-site.

Do I have to take travel insurance before I go to Australia?

If not mandatory, international medical insurance is strongly recommended by both the Australian Ministry of the Interior and the French authorities.

The latter recall: "that there is no bilateral agreement between France and Australia in the field of social coverage".

Therefore, without travel insurance, you will have to pay for on-site care yourself. And they can be very, very high! The slightest consultation with a specialist doctor can go up to more than 120 €.

This is why the France Diplomatie website indicates that it is "imperative to have an assistance contract or insurance to cover all medical expenses (including surgery, hospitalization, ambulance costs and disputes in the event of an accident) and medical repatriation, at the risk of not having access to care, including in the event of a life-saving emergency".

A few tips before heading to Australia:

From the Bush to the beautiful surf beaches, Australia offers a range of landscapes, as well as incredible flora and fauna. Enough to satisfy the desires of families as more adventurous.

Be careful on the road if you are on a road trip by motorhome and remember that Australians drive to the left! If you plan to go hiking, it is advisable to call on a guide to making the most of the wildlife and the wonders of the different regions. Always take care to protect yourself from mosquitoes and the sun (hat and sunscreen) particularly biting in Australia. In all cases, Travel Insurance Australia covers medical expenses or emergency hospitalization, as well as medical repatriation expenses.

Finally, if you are a sportsman and you plan to surf or dive, be careful and learn about the currents, these famous «rips» which can be very strong, and about the presence or not of sharks and jellyfish.
